#1 - FORGET THIS, I'M GOING TO TOKYO - Performed by Numbers On Napkins

The explosive and impulsive party punk band, Numbers On Napkins, floored us all this year when they released their single, “Forget This, I’m Going to Tokyo”. The songs uncharacteristically complex guitar riff, mixed with angsty vocals that have a hint of despair in them, helped to reveal just how talented Numbers On Napkins can be, when they feel like it that is!

“Forget This, I’m Going to Tokyo” is a strong track, and it really deserves to be in the number one position. NON is primarily known for their punk and pop punk songs, so it was honestly astounding to hear the band play something so much different, and perform it so incredibly well.

In the past, NON has kept things fairly basic, but still infectious, catchy and poppy! Although “Forget This, I’m Going to Tokyo” is drastically different compared to the bands earlier material. It’s never easy writing a song that is more complex and different sounding, while trying to incorporate a catchy melody. Although NON made it look so simple, and the end result is smooth and tight.

Drummer Tad Gurthman really gets his chance to shine with this track, as the fast paced drum track is chopped full of alternating toms, followed by hard hitting cymbal crashes. Gurthman is all over the place while playing the song, but manages to make it sound so easy, as though he’s playing so effortlessly. The heavy but still bright sounding bass line is a spectacular way to introduce the song, and the band even chose to include piano’s and keyboards throughout the chorus, helping to expand the song even more!

The single is from NON’s latest EP, “Forget This, I’m Going to Tokyo”, and the song will also be available on the bands new upcoming album, “Borrachos, Chingasos Y Rucas”, in stores later this year.
