The Journey of
Chase Stain........

Stain decided he wanted to finish sixth grade back in his home town of Phoenix a
few months before the end of the school year. His mother agreed to let him live
with his father, a man he knew nothing about. So he got on a plane and left for
sunny Arizona. Stain created a relationship with his father, and met his older
brother Brent, from his father's first marriage. Stain idolized his brother, who at
the time was performing in a local band called Dr. Divine. Shortly after moving
back to Arizona, Stain had realized what he wanted to do in life, create music.
Practicing guitar soon became the highest priority in Stain's life. He spent his
summer break on the road with his father who was a jewelry dealer. Stain saw all of
the west from Washington to Texas, and he spent most of his time in the back of a
van with an acoustic guitar.
When the summer was over, Stain began a new school year, and was introduced to
his brothers girlfriends little brother Tokyo Bill. Tokyo and Chase spent hours
playing songs on acoustic guitars and talking about their new favorite band, Mr.
Bungle.

A few days before Christmas break, Stain was attacked by two
school mates in a locker room. The two students broke his nose,
but Stain managed himself well in the situation. After the other
students saw Stain defend himself against the students, nobody
ever hassled him again.
The incident was somewhat euphoric in many ways and helped
Stain cope with life. He quickly began making new friends, and
trying new things.
Stain began a new life that day. He slowly began hanging out with
other musicians, and spent more time in practice sessions than in
school. His grades slipped, and he began experimenting with
marijuana and alcohol.
In the cold month of December 1993, Stain's friends B-Hound and
Jones came up with the idea of starting a band. B-Hound played
drums and Jones was a guitarist, but they needed a bassist. Chase
begged his father for a bass for Christmas, and got just what he
wanted.
The trio called themselves Dirty Laundry and dedicated
themselves to be everything that punk wasn't about. The theory
was to create a humorous band that had anti-punk core lyrics. The
songs were to be as outlandish as possible.

Dirty Laundry released their first E.P. one year after forming. The album was titled 9 1/2 Months, because it
was songs written during the first 9 1/2 months they were a band. The album had 3 songs on it that Stain had
written. Punk Rock Stud was about his ex-girlfriend, God Bless America was a political rant against Bill
Clinton, and Fuck Moon Valley was a rebel yell to his high school administration. The trio chose Chuck Duffy
to perform drums on the album, and moved B-Hound to guitar. Stain had the idea of releasing it to their own
record label and fronted the money with help from two of his close friends Kris and Kelly Johnson. Stain and
the Johnson's formed Bad Stain Records and chose the album as their first release.
Duffy was busy with his other band Corrupt Citizen, so Dirty Laundry began a search to find a new drummer.
They finally chose Billy Horner, a drummer from another band called Subject Mad. Horner retired from the
band to focus on Subject Mad a few months later, but introduced Dirty Laundry to Ryan Hamilton.
Hamilton quickly became Dirty Laundry's new drummer and they made plans to head into the studio to record
a follow up E.P. immediately. Before they could make it into the studio, Jones announced he would be leaving
the band because of creative differences. Hamilton, B-Hound, and Stain went into the studio and recorded a
new E.P. titled "All Washed Up". The album was full of lyrics that glorified sexism and homophobia. All
Washed Up was all sold out of its 1,000 press run in less than 3 months!
Success was consuming the members of Dirty Laundry and tension got stronger between the band. Stain
began using cocaine and pain killers. Soon he graduated onto mind altering drugs like LSD and shrooms.
B-Hound slowly followed in the descent and began his own troubles with drugs and alcohol. The only member
that managed to stay level was Hamilton, and he desperately wanted to release a full length. So once again
Dirty Laundry stumbled into the studio to record.
It was now junior year in high
school and Stain found it hard to
make it to his classes. Most of
his friends had dropped out,
including B-Hound.
Relationship problems had left
Stain bitter., and his music was
all that seemed important.
While recording their debut full
length, Stain was introduced to a
band called D-I-X, a local band
that his former guitarist Jones
had recently joined. Stain
signed D-I-X to Bad Stain
Records and released their full
length album a few weeks
before Dirty Laundry's full
length debut, Tales from the
Laundry Room..

Sales were poor for Bad Stain Records and Kris and Kelly Johnson began to question their investment. They
agreed to stick around for a few months, and Stain agreed to buy them out if sales did not improve.
Bad Stain Records released full length debuts from local bands Corrupt Citizen and Subject Mad, but sales
were slow. Stain had no choice but to struggle to find money to buy the Johnson's shares of the company.
Somehow he did it.
Stain soon realized he had a drug problem and discontinued his use of mind altering drugs and cocaine.
Eventually even quitting all drugs completely.

Stain got focused on his school work and was in a committed relationship. He started
working hard at his label putting out numerous compilations and vinyl releases.
Although Dirty Laundry was on the rise, opening up for bands ranging from TSOL
and Total Chaos, to Sublime and Link 80, B-Hound was growing tired of Dirty
Laundry and decided to move on, leaving Stain as the only original member.
B-Hound was replaced with Stain's former jr. high school friend Tokyo Bill. Stain
quickly began writing music for a new release from Dirty Laundry. This would mark
the first time Stain wrote an entire album on his own, and he was under a lot of stress
to create something new without the assistance of his former band mate B-Hound.
The fans expected something bigger and better than Tales...., and that would present
a problem because Tales.... was on the rise, selling over 4,000 copies!
Chase Stain was born on November 17th, 1977 in the waiting room of the
hospital. He spent the first few weeks of his life in an incubator, but soon grew to
become the sexiest man alive. His amazing journey begins in sixth grade when
he left sunny California for the hot desert of Arizona to live with his father.
Stain went to his first concert in junior high. It was there that he
was introduced to the AZ punk scene. The show was at a run down
warehouse called The Bunker. He gazed into the mosh pit while
watching local punk bands The Generiks, Mandingo, and
Lustmustard perform. Stain was even more excited to find that the
lead vocalist of The Generiks was also his brother's roommate. He
quickly started a friendship with all of the members from The
Generiks, as well as the other locals performing that night. The
following weekend Tokyo Bill and Chase attended a Faith No
More concert, reassuring Stain that he still wanted to create music.
If Chase was going to become a true artist, he would first need to
understand everything about guitar. When enrolling at his new
high school, Moon Valley, he noticed a guitar class in his selection
book. A check mark in a box was all it took to finally get the
training his family could not afford.
When Stain arrived at Moon Valley he was labeled an outcast to
his classmates. Stain was a comedian at heart, but stayed isolated
at many times. He was bullied by the other kids, as he was all
throughout junior high. He spent his days in school, and his nights
with his guitar. Stain began listening to all styles of music, from old
school punk to 80's new wave. He found an appreciation for music
of all styles, but still had no one he knew that felt the way he did
about music.
